Mad Max: Fury Road has been named this year’s best film by the National Board of Review.
The George Miller-directed action flick starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron was voted in by the board’s members, which is made up of film enthusiasts, filmmakers and academics.
Ridley Scott was awarded Best Director for The Martian and the film’s star Matt Damon took out Best Actor.
Best Actress went to Brie Larson for Room, a film based on Emma Donoghue’s novel.
Amy, the film about the late singer Amy Winehouse, won Best Documentary.
“2015 has been a banner year for popular cinema. We are thrilled to be awarding George Miller and Ridley Scott, two iconic filmmakers at the top of their game, while also celebrating the next generation of talent,” NBR President Annie Schulhof said.
